Important Notice About Lift Misuse and Door Wedging
We have recently experienced repeated failures of the building’s lift due to residents wedging the lift doors open during moves or deliveries. This practice causes the lift to enter a fault condition and shut down.
Please note the following:
The lift’s safety systems are designed to shut down on purpose when the doors are forced or held open. This is to ensure that:
- the lift will not run in an unsafe condition
- the controller is protected from overload and damage
- the door motor is not burnt out from excessive force or extended open time
- only a licensed lift technician is allowed to reset and restart the system, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protecting residents from liability
Because of these built-in protections, building staff cannot reset the lift when this happens. A qualified technician must attend, which results in downtime and call-out costs.
What residents must do:
- Do not wedge or block the lift doors at any time
- Use the DOOR OPEN button as intended
- Book moves and large deliveries through building management
- Follow all building rules relating to lift use during moves
Consequences of misuse:
Misuse that leads to lift shutdowns is a breach of building rules and may result in charges for repair or technician call-outs.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep the lift safe, reliable, and available for everyone.
