WATER ISSUE UPDATE - 25/10/24

The water pressure issues have been traced back to a rupture in a 760mm distribution main on Abernathy Road. Watercorp shut off the main last Thursday (17th Oct) to begin repairs, which have proven complex due to the size of the pipe. They estimate the repairs will be completed by Monday afternoon 28th Oct, but given the complexity of the situation, there is always a chance for unforeseen delays.

This distribution main is responsible for supplying and boosting water pressure to areas including Rivervale, Lathlain, Kewdale, and nearby suburbs. Although the issue is not affecting all 200 apartments, it is predominantly impacting levels 4, 5, and 6, where low water pressure has been most noticeable.

The reason for this is that the first six floors, including the basement levels, receive water directly from the mains. In contrast, levels 6 and above rely on pumps and a water tank on the ground floor. During peak hours, typically between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., the increased demand on the system reduces the pressure, making it difficult for water to reach levels 4, 5, and 6. However, by 10 or 11 a.m., when demand decreases, pressure on these levels improves to near-normal levels.

Due to the height of the building, water pressure decreases by approximately 10 kPa per meter, resulting in an overall pressure drop of around 180 to 200 kPa on level 6.

While we understand how frustrating this situation is, it is beyond our control. Our plumbers have thoroughly inspected the building’s systems and found no internal issues that could contribute to the low pressure during peak times. The building manager and plumber will continue to monitor the situation and follow up with Watercorp as repairs progress. It's important to note that other nearby buildings and homes are also experiencing similar problems.
